There are two ways to best get to know our faith and community. You are invited to attend our Adult Information Class and to worship with us.
On Saturday night at 6:00 p.m., we use a simpler liturgy accompanied by piano. Communion is every first, third, and fifth Saturdays. Every fourth Saturday we use Holden Evening Prayer by Marty Haugen.
On Sunday at 10:00 a.m. , we use the Divine Service liturgy and have communion at every service.
On Tuesday through Friday at 8:30 a.m., we pray the order of Matins.
During the seasons of Advent and Lent we have Wednesday services at 7:00 p.m.
Watch our worship service on Michigan City cable channel 99 at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, 6:00 p.m. Friday, and 3:00 p.m. Sunday.
In the Lord's Supper Jesus Christ gives to us His very body and blood in, with, and under the bread and wine for the forgiveness of our sins (Matthew 26:26-29). The Lord invites to His table those who trust His words and repent of all sin. But with God’s promise also comes a warning: those who eat and drink our Lord’s body and blood unworthily do so to their great harm (1 Corinthians 11:17-34). Out of concern for souls and because the Lord’s Supper is a confession of our unity of faith (1 Corinthians 10:16-17), we invite only those who share the fellowship and faith of this altar. Those who are under church discipline, not yet instructed within The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing this Synod, and yet desire to receive the sacrament, are asked to speak with the pastor.
If you are not communing with us, you may come forward to the altar, cross your arms with your hands touching your shoulders, and receive a blessing from the pastor.
Understanding The Order Of Service
Following the liturgy in our Sunday services might be a challenge the first time you visit our congregation. The key to following along in the service is the first page on the inside cover of the bulletin (see example).
Under "Sun. 8:00 & 10:45 a.m." you'll see the musical setting for the Divine Service which we are using and a page number. This is the page in the hymnal which has the ordinary of our liturgy. The "ordinary" is the part of the service that doesn't change. This service you will continually be returning to throughout our worship. You might keep a bookmark in the page as you go along.
After the Divine Service listing, you'll see a list of hymns and verses in the order which they will be sung. You may also look up to the right and left hand sides of the chancel (the altar area) to see the hymnal page numbers.
The propers for our service (the parts of the service which change from week to week) are printed in the bulletin (see example). This includes the Introit (the verses chanted after Confession and Absolution), Collect, and the three Bible readings for the day.
