What is Worship?
We worship Immanuel, "God with us." God comes to us with His gifts and we receive and extol them. God's Word, spoken and sung, bestows what it says. It gives birth to faith, forgives sins, and saves from death and the devil. God speaks, we listen and sing His loving promises back to Him. In Baptism God's Holy Spirit comes to us and calls us by God's Name, making us heirs of the kingdom of heaven. In the Lord's Supper we eat and drink Jesus' body and blood for the forgiveness of sins. And we regularly confess our sins and receive absolution (forgiveness), that our sins would be put to death and a new person who lives by faith and desires to obey God's Word would emerge.
Our liturgy and music are carefully chosen to reflect all these things. They tie us to our rich musical and doctrinal heritage. For someone who is visiting this might mean our liturgy and hymns are difficult to follow at first (see First Time Vistor? page), but they bless us with a deep well of devotion to the Word of God.
